(CORNWALL, PE) In a battle of offences, the UNB REDS came out on top in a thrilling game against the Holland College Hurricanes, 50-42, on Saturday night.

The REDS went into Saturday’s regular-season finale looking to lock up first place in the Atlantic Football League standings and home field advantage heading into the playoffs.

UNB got off to a great start, thanks to two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Hunter Sturgeon and another from running back Ryan Lee, staking UNB to a 21-3 first quarter lead. in the first quarter.

The Hurricanes would answer in the second, with a field goal and two touchdown drives, and the teams went to the half separated by a point, 21-20.

Coming out of the break, the teams would trade scores, with Holland College netting a touchdown before Dom Hall scored for the REDS. That was followed by UNB’s defence scoring a safety to give UNB a 29-27 lead through three quarters.

The leader of the UNB offence then took over.

Sturgeon rushed for three fourth quarter touchdowns.

Holland would do their best to respond, scoring two touchdowns of their own, but it wasn’t enough, and Sturgeon's heroics would help lead UNB to the 50-42 victory.

The REDS now sit atop the AFL standings and will get set to host the UNB Saint John Seawolves in the semi-finals, on Saturday, Oct. 29 at BMO Centre.
