REDS Eager For Return To Play

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS are pleased to hear of today’s announcement from Atlantic University Sport of the planned resumption of competition.

With New Brunswick’s late Friday return to Level 2 of the province’s winter plan to manage COVID-19, the AUS office says, starting February 11th, New Brunswick-based members will resume regular season play in the sports of women’s volleyball and women’s and men’s hockey.

“I want to thank public health officials in the region for contributing to helping us get to this point,” said REDS Athletic Director John Richard, also the current president of the AUS Management Council. “They have so much on their plate right now, but they recognize the value of sport and recreation for all who participate. We will continue to follow their direction and appreciate their guidance, and that of the leadership here at UNB and within Atlantic University Sport.”

Following the scheduled return of action in New Brunswick, AUS anticipates a similar return by member institutions in Nova Scotia as early as February 18th, with Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador re-joining when public health guidelines in those provinces allow.

"Our student-athletes are eager to get back to training ahead of a return to play, but we’ll do so with great respect for the direction of our public health officials,” said Richard.

“After several weeks of disappointing news, we look forward to doing what we love to do and what we do best.”

More information on updated Atlantic University Sport regular season schedules will be available next week.
