Jamie Stewart, of the men’s curling team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week.
The first-year skip guided the REDS to a bronze medal at the 2023 AUS Men’s Curling Championship, held at Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club.
Stewart and his teammates rallied to beat Memorial in the bronze medal game, earning a spot in the U SPORTS Men’s Curling Championship, in Sudbury, next month.
“Nothing phased his commitment to the goal of winning,” said REDS’ coach Lindsey MacKnight. “Not every shot was made, but we made the shots when it mattered the most. I’m proud of Jamie and the boys for sticking with the game plan in every end and making just one more shot than the opponent.”
Steward and his rink-mates now prepare for the national championship bonspiel, March 15-19.
