The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week is Luis Garcia, from the men’s soccer team.
The 3rd year fullback was a force at both ends of the pitch as the Reds swept a pair of weekend games, improving to 5-2-2 on the season.
In Saturday’s 3-0 win over Acadia, Garcia scored once and was impressive in stifling the Axemen offence.
In Sunday’s 2-1 win at UPEI, Garcia scored both of UNB’s goals, including the winner, in exciting fashion, in the final minute of play. Garcia earned player of the game honours on Sunday.
“Luis is a dynamic two-way, modern day wing back,” said Reds head coach Miles Pinsent. “His composure and creativity enable us to play out of our end and he’s quick to join in the attack once we have. He scored a cracker of a goal to secure full points in the final minutes of Sunday’s important road game at UPEI.”
Garcia and his teammates see their next action on October 18th, when they visit Mount Allison.
