(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The UNB REDS took the Memorial Sea-Hawks in straight sets Friday evening, at the Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball league tournament, in St. John's.

The REDS won with scores of 25-10, 25-22, and 25-12.

"I thought we had a solid effort after a bit of a challenging travel day yesterday," said REDS head coach Richard Schick. "We had to drive to Halifax to catch a flight. The flight was delayed until midnight and we didn't get to our hotel until around three o'clock this morning."

The Sea-Hawks would drop the first set 25-10 and put forth a strong effort in the second before coming up short 25-22.

The final set of the game was dominated by the REDS who won 25-12.

"We found the match challenging at times," said Schick. "We did a good job creating atmosphere on our side of the court to help us push through and play consistently, especially in the first and third sets."

With 11 kills and 17 digs, Heather Benko (Sechelt, BC) earned Subway Player of the Game honours.

Sonya Nielson (Delia, AB) had eight kills and six digs in the REDS win.

"Paige Lehto (North Vancouver, BC) had a great match distributing the ball, which led to and efficient, balanced offensive attack for our team," said Schick.

With the win, the REDS are now 4-3 and sit third in the AUS standings. Memorial is 0-6.

The REDS take to the court again Saturday, in a 3:30pm (Atlantic time) match against the Saint Mary's Huskies, while the Sea-Hawks take on Moncton.
