(FREDERICTON, NB) Four-time New Brunswick age class champion Jennifer Leahy will join the UNB Reds women’s volleyball team in the 2019-20 Atlantic University Sport season.

The 17-year-old middle has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent.

Leahy was a member of Volleyball New Brunswick age class championship teams in 2014, 2015, 2016, and most recently in 2018, with Moncton’s Fuzion Volleyball Club. In 2016, she was named the tournament’s MVP.

“I feel that my competitive nature and passion for the game are assets I can bring to the team,” said Leahy.

At the 2017 Volleyball Canada Indoor National Championships, Leahy helped her U16 Fuzion team win a tier title.

She’s currently a member of the varsity girls team at Moncton’s Bernice MacNaughton High School and is a veteran of several provincial teams.

“My short-term goal is to continue developing my skills, while also balancing an academic and social life,” said Leahy. “My long-term goal is to gain life long memories and friendships with the team, and hopefully win a few titles along the way.”

Reds head coach Christine Biggs says Leahy is a great addition to her 2019 recruiting class.

“She comes to the Reds with strong skills, and a fantastic attitude towards her potential for growth during her future seasons as a Red,” said Biggs. “She’s an experienced middle blocker with the capacity to play some outside. She is a focused academic with a passion for volleyball, and we are excited to see Jenn excel as a student-athlete.”

Leahy will pursue an engineering degree will attending UNB.
