(FREDERICTON, NB) Just days after leading Moncton’s Fuzion 18U high performance team to a New Brunswick championship, Katelyn Chapman is taking her next volleyball step.

Chapman, who was named the most valuable player at the recent Volleyball New Brunswick 18U championship tournament, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the UNB Reds.

“It has always been a goal and dream of mine to play university volleyball at a high level and in a competitive environment,” said Chapman. “The Reds have a great program, facility, and community, and are just what I'm looking for."

The 17-year-old was Fuzion’s starting libero during their 2018 championship run.

Chapman has been a fixture in the Fuzion program, a member of their 16U, 17U and 18U teams.

Previously, she was a member of New Brunswick’s 16U team.

“Katelyn immediately stood out to me for her ability to maintain focus and compete with positive intensity, regardless of game context,” said Reds head coach Christine Biggs. “She is the type of player that athletes want as their teammate and coaches want on their rosters. She’ll contribute strong passing and defensive skills to our lineup.”

Chapman will study Environmental Science at UNB, and is excited to join the Reds.

"My short-term goal is to continue to develop my skills by working hard on and off the court,” she said. “My long-term goal is to win an Atlantic University Sport title with the Reds."

“She has shown passion for her academic pursuits here at UNB and we’re excited to welcome her into our Reds women’s volleyball program to continue to develop her skills as a U SPORTS student-athlete,” said Biggs.

Chapman will join the Reds beginning in the 2019-20 season.
