(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds took over the court early, defeating the Memorial University Sea-Hawks in straight sets on Saturday evening.

The Reds won with scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-11.

"I think we did really well because we all did our jobs, we came in knowing that we not only wanted to work what we have been doing well all season, but build on things that we have been learning and practicing in practice and I think we did a really good job of that tonight," said Reds outside hitter Megan Kuciak (Ottawa, ON).

Kuciak was named Subway Player of the Game with seven kills and four digs.

Due to the cancellation of yesterday's game between these two teams, the match awarded four points to the winner.

UNB dominated the first set winning 25-14.

The second set would not be any better for the Sea-Hawks as UNB started on a 13-6 run to a 25-15 score.

The third set was no different with UNB taking it 25-11 to close the game.

Kristen Burns (Mississauga, ON) had nine kills for the Reds while Robyn Anderson (Fernie, BC) had seven and Maggie McLenahan (Oromocto, NB) had eight digs.

Catherine Smith (Mount Pearl, NL) led the Sea-Hawks with five kills and Katie Wagar (Halifax, NS) had 13 digs.

The Reds have won six of their last seven games, improving to 10-7, passing the Saint Mary's University Huskies for third in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

"Our confidence is high, but we definitely know that we have to still hit the gym hard and put in the work to reach our end goal which is winning AUS and going to U SPORTS," said Kuciak.

The Sea-Hawks fall to 1-17 and sit in last place.

These two teams meet again at UNB's Currie Center on Sunday. Game time is 1:00pm.
