VReds Win Second Straight
Win 3-1 at Acadia
(WOLFVILLE, NS) The UNB Varsity Reds are suddenly on a roll.
After starting the season 0-15, the VReds have strung together back-to-back wins.
Megan Kuciak(Ottawa, ON) had 13 kills and 16 digs to lead UNB in a 3-1 win at Acadia, on Saturday.
The Varsity Reds won 25-16, 25-18, 24-26 and 26-24.
On Wednesday, the Varsity Reds beat Moncton 3-2 for their first win of the season.
Maggie McLenahan(Oromocto, NB) had a game-high 23 digs for the Varsity Reds while Lauren Joyce(Haywards Heath, UK) added 7 kills.
Kailey Evans(St. Andrews, MB) led the Axewomen with 22 digs and Lauryn Renzella(Stouffville, ON) had 12 kills.
Riding the momentum of Wednesday's win, the Varsity Reds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set.
A 5-0 run late gave UNB a 22-14 lead, on route to the 25-16 victory.
Acadia kept the VReds close through the early part of the second set, but a 4-0 run with Robyn Anderson(Fernie, BC) serving allowed UNB to pull away and win 25-18.
The third set saw ties at 16, 17, 18, 23, and 24 before Peyton DeWolfe(Bridgewater, NS) served out a 26-24 win for the home side.
Acadia used a 4-0 run early in the fourth set to take a 9-5 lead, but the Varsity Reds hung around.
With rookie Julia Diemert(Egbert, ON) serving, UNB scored a 6-0 run to take a 16-13 lead.
Acadia managed another run, adding five straight points to go up 23-20 before Joyce and veteran Baylee Stockford(Lutes Mountain, NB) served out the set and the match.
Next up for the Varsity Reds, a visit to Saint Mary's, on Sunday, where the first serve is scheduled for 2:00pm.
The Axewomen host Saint Mary's on Friday, at 7:00pm.
