VReds Fall To Memorial

(HALIFAX, NS) The Memorial University Sea-Hawks improved to 2-and-3 with a 3-0(25-20, 25-16, 25-22) win over the UNB Varsity Reds in the final game of the AUS women's volleyball season-opening tournament for both teams.

The tournament was played in Halifax.

Jill Snow(Bishop's Falls, NL) had a match-high nine kills for the Sea-Hawks and added eight digs. Maiya Westwood(East St. Paul, MB) had 24 assists and seven digs.

Robyn Anderson(Fernie, BC) was the top point-getter for the Varsity Reds with eight kills and nine digs. Maggie McLenahan(Oromocto, NB) had 12 of the Varsity Reds 47 digs.

The first set saw both teams battle to control the game. They traded points early until Memorial managed to distance themselves from UNB, taking the first set 25-20.

It was more of the same in the second set until strong serving runs helped the Sea-Hawks pull ahead and take it 25-16

The Varsity Reds struggled with their attack early in the third set, allowing Memorial to go on a four-point run to start the set. UNB would bounce back with pressure, but the Sea-Hawks held on to that lead to win the third and final set 25-20.

Memorial is back in action November 11th, when they host Saint Mary's in a two match-weekend.

The Varsity Reds head to Acadia to take on the Axewomen, on November 4th.
