Star setter Olivia Witteveen commits to UNB for 2015

The UNB Varsity Reds women's volleyball team is pleased to announce the signing of Olivia Witteveen, to join in the 2015-16 season.

Witteveen, a talented young setter from Russell, Ontario, signed her letter of commitment earlier this fall. Currently a senoir at École Secondaire Publique Gisèle-Lalonde, Witteveen has played with the Mavericks Volleyball Club from 14U-18U, with her 17U team placing 10th at last year's nationals. Her experience also includes a stint with the Region 6 team in Ontario, the OFSAA AA championship-winning team from École Gisèle-Lalonde, and three years of beach volleyball.

UNB head coach Jilliane Goulet says she's looking forward to having Witteveen join the squad.

"I first saw Olivia competing in grade 11 and ended up following her Mavericks club team all tournament; I enjoyed watching her play so much," Goulet said. "Olivia's an athletic setter and a confident leader. She's an excellent fit for our program and we're all really looking forward to Olivia joining us next year.

Witteveen intends to enter the Faculty of Business Administration at UNB, balancing her participation on the team with studies in Finance.

"I am very excited to be joining the Varsity Reds next year," Witteveen said. "See you in September 2015. I'm coming in hot!”
