REDS Add Transfer Hageltorn

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s track and field team is naming Ottawa native and middle-distance runner Emilie Hageltorn to their recruiting class of 2022.

Hageltorn has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2022-2023 Atlantic University Sport season.

“Emilie comes from some very strong programs in the Ottawa area, and we’re excited to have her joining our women’s middle distance and long sprints group this fall” said Chris Belof, the head coach of the REDS track and field and cross country teams. “She’ll be a great addition to our women’s program.”

“UNB’s strong sense of community, both academically and athletically is what appealed to me about the school,” said Hageltorn. “After meeting UNB’s coaching staff and professors, I believe this opportunity will allow me to grow and develop as a student-athlete.”

The 20-year-old is transferring from Queen’s University.

In 2018, Hageltorn placed fourth in the 400-metres at the Ontario Track & Field East Regional Championships, and, previously she was the top female finisher in both the Bay of Fundy 5K and Ottawa’s Hintonburg 5K.

“I hope to bring dedication, leadership and positivity to the team,” she said.

“We expect Emilie to take the next step in her athletic career as part of our women’s team, both individually and as part of our relay program. Emilie is a strong student who is diligent in her day-to-day preparation,” said Coach Belof.

Hageltorn says her short-term goal with the REDS is to develop athletically and to establish personal best performances. Long-term, she has her eyes set on competing at the U SPORTS Championships.

Hageltorn will study Chemistry while attending UNB.
