REDS 4th At Acadia

(WOLFVILLE, NS) Ethan Nestoruk's strong start to the 2022-23 Atlantic University Sport swimming season continued Sunday.

The first-year REDS swimmer won the men's 100m breaststroke at the Jack Scholz Memorial, the second meet on the AUS schedule, hosted by Acadia University.

Nestoruk beat Acadia's Gordon Shortt to the wall by just 7/10ths of a second for his second race win in as many meets. Nestoruk also scored a third place finish in the men's 50m backstroke.

The only other RED to score a podium finish on Sunday was Eric Jean, who swam to second place in the men's 100m butterfly.

The Dalhousie Tigers captured the meet's women's, men's, and combined team titles.

The men's Tigers team edged the host Axemen, accumulating 645 points to Acadia's 623.5 over the two sessions, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Memorial was third in the men's standings, while UNB and Mount Allison were fourth and fifth respectively.

The Tigers women's team posted 714 points, with Acadia earning second in the final standings. UNB finished fourth in the women's standings.

The REDS were fourth in the combined team standings.

The Tigers captured eight first-place finishes in Sunday's session, Acadia grabbed seven and the REDS had Nestoruk's win.

Reagan Crowell (Lakeville, NB), and Allison McCloy (Calgary, AB) led the way for the Tigers with two wins each. Crowell had wins in the women's 800m and 200m freestyle. McCloy had wins in the women's 100m butterfly and 400m individual medley.

Acadia's Grace Earle (Halifax, NS) had wins in the 200m and 50m backstroke races.

On the men's side, Liam Ferguson (Upper Tantallon, NS) posted two wins on Sunday, the men's 50m and 200m backstrokes.

Acadia men won the 400m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Next on the AUS schedule is the three-day Kemp-Fry Invitational, November 25-27, at Dalhousie.
