(FREDERICTON, NB) Allie Hughes-Goyette is making a big move.

From Squamish, British Columbia, to Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The striker has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the UNB Reds women’s soccer team, beginning in the 2019 season.

“We’re excited to add Allie to our group,” said Reds head coach Jon Crossland. “We feel she’s a great fit and will make immediate and long term impacts as a Red.”

Crossland says Hughes-Goyette is a goal scorer with a flair for creativity.

“She enjoys scoring goals and can do so in multiple ways, so her addition, combined with the growth of our returning strikers will, hopefully, result in more goals being scored in the future.”

Hughes-Goyette, currently attending Howe Sound Secondary School, in Squamish, is coming off three years with Mountain United Football Club, of the British Columbia Soccer Premier League.

Previously, she’s served as captain of the West Vancouver Soccer Club Metro squad, as well as serving as captain on a Squamish Youth Soccer Association side.

“UNB appealed to me in many ways when I was deciding where I wanted to go,” said Hughes-Goyette. “I was impressed by the facilities provided for the Reds and am excited to have access to them.”

Along with a scoring touch, Hughes-Goyette says she’ll bring a positive attitude to the Reds.

“I’m a driven, hard-working athlete,” she said. “I’m a committed team member that, I think, those around me can depend on.”

“Aside from scoring goals, what we really like about Allie is her mindset on and off the field,” said Crossland. “On the field, she competes and gets involved in all aspects of the game. Off the field, she is mature, well-spoken, and will fit into our group well.”

Hughes-Goyette will study Engineering while attending UNB.
