V-Reds continue winning streak with win over Aigles Bleues

(Fredericton, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds women's soccer team defeated the UdeM Aigles Bleues 4-0 in regular season action at the BMO Field in Fredericton.

In the first half both sides had equal chances. It wasn't until the 30th minute that UNB's Lucy Parkin (Sheffield, UK) opened up the scoring off of a corner kick that snuck into the back corner of the UdeM goal.

UNB's Lauren Cubbon (Saskatoon, SK) continued the scoring minutes later for the Varsity Reds and Abby Sullivan (Orleans, Mass, USA) scored her first goal of her UNB career, brilliantly nodding a free kick by Parkin into the top corner of the goal.

UNB held possession for most of the second half and were rewarded with a fourth goal by Courtney Strba (Windsor Junction, NS) off of a perfectly placed ball, knocked into the eighteen-yard box by first year Selina Fabbri (Toronto, ON).

Subway Player of the Game for UNB was Abby Sullivan and Juli Beliveau (Dieppe, N.B.) for UdeM.

Head coach Jon Crossland was happy with his team's success as a whole. "Everyone who came in made a difference, they maintained or elevated the standard".

Sullivan, UNB's Subway Player of the game was excited to score her first goal as a UNB Varsity Red "I was shocked and excited to score but playing as a team was what got us through that game".

UNB travels to Sackville, N.B. Saturday, October 3rd to face the MTA Mounties and UdeM will take on the Mounties on Sunday October 4th
