(SACKVILLE, NB) The UNB Reds ended the first half of their Atlantic University Sport season on a winning note.

Sage McElroy-Scott's (Morden, MB) goal, at 6:43 of the 2nd period, proved to be the winning goal as the Reds shut-out the Mount Allison Mounties 3-0.

"It's great to finish the first half with a win, and a shut-out on top of that," said Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth.

McElroy-Scott's goal came after a scoreless first period that saw the Reds put a ton of pressure on the Mounties, yet be outshot.

Early in the third period, Myah Bowal (Terrace, BC) scored her sixth goal of the season to extend UNB's lead.

Paige Grenier (Olds, AB) added an insurance marker at 13:30. Grenier was named the Subway Player of the Game.

Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC) stopped all 32 shots she faced in the Reds net, while Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) stopped 13 of the 16 shots she faced in the Mounties net.

With the win, the Reds are now 11-and-7 and in fourth place in the AUS.

"Our team pushed through this first half, through adversity," said Hilworth. "We've had a short bench for much of the first half, so it was great to get the win to have confidence going into the break and looking forward to the second half.

Mount Allison is now 2-15-and-1 and last in the eight-team league.

The Reds and Mounties will face each other again to open the second half of the season, January 10th, in Sackville.
