(WOLFVILLE, NS) The Acadia Axewomen scored a 67-51 win over the UNB Reds on Saturday, sweeping a two-game weekend series.

The Axewomen came out strong on Saturday and were able to hold the Reds to 12 points, while scoring 19 in the opening quarter.

Rachel Clouatre-Trudeau (St. Jean sur Richelieu, QC) and Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) led the way for the Axewomen in the first half and giving their team a solid lead.

At half-time, the Reds trailed 39-23.

The Reds were unsuccessful from three in the opening half again on Saturday, making only 1 of their 11 attempts in the first 20 minutes.

Acadia increased their lead even more in the third quarter, bringing the score to 57-36.

The Reds managed to outscore the Axewomen 15-10 in the final frame, but it would not be enough, and Acadia won 67-51.

Eva Tumwine (Fredericton, NB) was a rebound shy of a double-double for the Reds, scoring 12 points and grabbing nine boards.

Clouatre-Trudeau led all players with 16 points, adding four rebounds and four assists in Acadia's victory. She made seven of her 15 field goal attempts. Clouatre-Trudeau was named the Subway Player of the Game.

After the game, Clouatre-Trudeau was asked about her performance during Acadia's victory.

"I think it was really important to prove to ourselves to play tough and play great defense and to stop them on defense. I don't think it was about me playing good, it was about what the team needed."

Acadia remains in first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings, tied with UPEI, who have a game in hand.

The Axewomen hit the road on Friday and face St FX in a 4-point game in Antigonish, while the Reds head back home to play the Panthers on Saturday.
