Reds Score Big Road Win

(HALIFAX, NS) After suffering an overtime loss on Friday night, the UNB Varsity Reds had an offensive explosion on Saturday.

UNB beat the Dalhousie Tigers 73-45, going 8 for 17 from downtown and shooting 52.6% from the field.

Both teams started slowly, but the home side found their groove first. Dal jumped out to an 11-6 lead on the strength of Megan Thompson's early three pointer.

The Varsity Reds rallied quickly. Caroline Healy would hit a three to tie the game at 11.

UNB's offence started to churn in the second quarter. Grace Wade put the VReds up 21-18, stealing the ball and running the length of the court for an easy lay up. The Tigers would score five unanswered points to hold a 23-21 lead at the half.
UNB owned the second half, putting up 52 points to the Tigers 22.
 
The Reds hit five threes in the third quarter, while Dal's Tessa Stammberger did her best to keep it close, going 4-for-4 from behind the arc.
The Varsity Reds ran away with the win in the fourth quarter, opening the frame on a 16-0 run. They would continue to shoot well all the way to the buzzer, taking the game 73-45.
Stammberger led all scorers with 24.
The Varsity Reds attack was spread out, as four players reached double-digit points.
Next up for UNB, their home opener. They host the Cape Breton Capers, Saturday. Tip-off is at 6PM, at the Richard J. Currie Center.
