(MONTREAL, QC) The UNB REDS men's volleyball season came to an end Saturday night, in a 3-1 RSEQ semi-final loss to the Université de Montreal Carabins.

The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked Carabins won with scores of 25-14, 15-25, 25-18, and 25-13.

"We knew coming into this series that we were playing a tough opponent, and that we'd have to play at a good level to give ourselves an opportunity," said REDS head coach Dan McMorran. "Our guys are not satisfied with the outcome, but we are certainly satisfied with our effort."

That effort was led by RSEQ 1st Team All Star Eduardo Luchese (Rio Grande du Sol, Brazil), who fired 12 kills and had a pair of digs. Thomas Vickers (Bible Hill, NS) added 10 kills, while RSEQ All Rookie Team member Scott Mann (Winnipeg, MB) had 10 digs.

Bradley Merryweather (New Maryland, NB) registered 24 assists.

Montreal's attack was led by Alexis Tournier (Gatineau, QC), who had 13 kills and eight digs, and Guillaume Bisson (Rouyn Noranda, QC) with a game-high 15 kills.

The Carabins will now face the winner of the Laval-Sherbrooke series, which concludes Sunday in a third and deciding game, in the conference final.

"We are grateful that we've been fortunate enough to be able to battle for a playoff spot at home, then to even be able to compete in the RSEQ semi-finals in this uncertain season," said Coach McMorran. "This was such valuable experience for the players who will be returning."

"We're excited for the future of our team," he said.
