Reds Add Calgary Libero

(FREDERICTON, NB) Austin Ross, a top Calgary volleyball talent, will join the UNB Reds men’s team ahead of the 2019-20 RSEQ season.

Ross, an 18-year-old Libero, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent.

A veteran of three seasons with Calgary’s Ace Volleyball Club, Ross was the club’s U17 most valuable player in 2018.

He was also the 2018 MVP of the varsity boys team at Calgary’s Bishop O’Byrne High School.

“Austin has great potential to be a solid U SPORTS libero,” said Reds head coach Dan McMorran. “He’s strong physically and possesses a great competitive energy on the floor, which combined with his strong academics, makes him an excellent addition to our program.”

Ross will join a UNB side that graduated just one player in 2019.

“The concept of having a young team is exciting to me,” said Ross.

Ross earned MVP honours at Bishop O’Byrne’s Bobcat Bowl Tournament in 2018.

“I’m highly competitive with a high work ethic and am willing to do whatever it takes to earn the desired result.”

Ross will enter UNB’s Faculty of Kinesiology.

“In the short term, my goal is to maximize every minute that goes into training, nutrition, recovery, family, education, and giving back. This will result in me becoming the best version of me that I can become. This will contribute to my long-term goal of the overall success of the program moving forward.”

Ross is the latest addition to a recruiting class that includes Moncton Middle Liam Zinck and Outside Hitter Thomas Vickers, from Truro, Nova Scotia.
