(Sydney, NS) The Cape Breton University Capers and the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds fought to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, at CBU Field, in Sydney.
The Capers highly anticipated home opener was a rematch of last year's AUS championship game.
Peter Schaale(Bernkastel-Kues, Germany) scored in the 18' minute, giving the home side an early lead.
The Varsity Reds replied in the 45th minute, when Marcus Lees(Barrie, ON) connected on a penalty kick.
Schaale was named the Subway Player of the Game.
The Varsity Reds continue their season-opening road trip, Sunday, in Antigonish. The face the St. FX X-Men, at 3:15PM.
The Capers host UPEI on Sunday.
UNB will play its home-opener next Saturday, September 17th, at 3:15PM, at BMO Centre. The Varsity Reds host the Memorial Sea Hawks.
