Late Goal Lifts VReds To Victory

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds men's soccer team finished the regular season on a winning note, scoring late to edge the UPEI Panthers 1-0, at BMO Centre.

The win earned the VReds a first round bye at the Atlantic University Sport championship, this coming weekend.

The first half was tightly contested. UNB had a few free kicks, but could not capitalize. The Panthers defended well and left the half tied 0-0.

Early in the second, UNB seemed to find their rhythm and opened up the game with a couple of dangerous chances. Both teams were even until the 81st minute, when UNB's Ben Gorringe(Truro, NS) scored the game winner, assisted by Oliver Jones(London, UK).

The Player of the Game for UNB was Oliver Jones. For UPEI, it was goalkeeper Brett Strba.

The Varsity Reds travel to Wolfville later this week, where Acadia will host the 2015 AUS men's soccer championship tournament.
