UNB men's soccer defeat Memorial at BMO Centre

Fredericton (NB) – The UNB Varsity Reds men's soccer team defeated the Memorial Seahawks6-2 at the BMO Field on a cold and rainy afternoon.

UNB opened the first half scoring with Jacob Goudy (Calgary, AB) who finished a chip shot into the top corner of MUN's goal. In the 18th minute it would be Goudy again to score his second goal of the match, assisted by Marcus Lees (Barrie, ON) with a well placed ball into MUN's 18-yard box.

MUN then answered with a goal from a corner kick, placed into the net by Jordi Slaney (St. Lawrence, NL) in the 27th minute, making it 2-1 for UNB.

UNB was rewarded with their own corner kick, minutes later, which was finished by Oliver Jones (London, UK). Both teams were proving dangerous on corner kicks, but it would be an own goal by the Seahawks off of a corner to make it 4-1 in the 34th minute. The first half came to an end with Goudy scoring his third goal of the match, fed by Kalen Park (Calgary, AB) with a strategically placed free-kick to make it 5-1.

The second half was slower than the first, both teams subbing numerous players throughout the last 45 minutes. The Seahawks scored late in the second half, making it 5-2 for UNB. Robbie Park (Glasgow, Scotland) scored off a penalty kick in the 88th minute to end the game 6-2.
