Varsity Reds secure second win over improved Sea-Hawks

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) Shea Nordheim's goal in the last minutes of the game was the difference as the visiting UNB Varsity Reds claimed a 2-1 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Sunday at King George Vth Park in AUS men's soccer play.

The home team outshot the visitors 4-3 in the first half yet the game remained scoreless. In the second half the sky opened and both teams had to deal with torrential rain which intensified throughout the half.

Second year forward for Memorial, Tyler Forsey, had the games first goal in the 70th minute. Just minutes after Forsey's goal, UNB's midfielder Diego Padilha scored the first goal for the Varsity Reds in the 75th minute of play, tying up the game.

The Sea-Hawks attempted to hold off the team nationally ranked as third in the country to finish with a draw, but veteran midfielder Shea Nordheim put one in the net for UNB during stoppage time. Padilha, was named the AUS Subway player of the game for the winners.

Memorial head coach Scott Betts felt it was a good performance by the men and that they deserved a better result.

"They put together a better 90 minute game today," said Betts. "Tyler Forsey did what he does best; score when given the chance. He broke free and gave us a 1-0 lead at the 70 minute mark. However, our lack of experience playing together as a team did not allow us to protect the lead."

UNB will see action next when they play host to Cape Breton on Saturday, and Acadia, Sunday.
