(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB REDS scored three times in the second period on route to a 4-1 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday.

The Huskies conceded the first goal of the game while they were short-handed, as the REDS Joe Gatenby (Kelowna, BC) scored with just over two minutes remaining in the period, sending UNB into the first intermission with a one goal lead.

The REDS struck again early in the second period on a quick shot from Samuel Dove-McFalls (Montreal, QC) that seemed to have everyone on the ice confused about how it went into the net.

SMU's Andrew Coxhead (Bedford, NS) then managed score on the power-play from a scramble in front of the REDS net, cutting the visitor's lead to one.

But the REDS would answer just 48 seconds later, as Nicolas Guay (Chateauguay, QC) scored a short-handed goal of his own, his 12th goal of the season, putting him in a tie for third in Atlantic University Sport scoring.

With less than six minutes remaining in the second, Dove-McFalls scored his second goal and third point of the game, giving the REDS a 4-1 lead.

Both teams created a handful of chances for themselves over the final 26 minutes, but never really looked like they were going to trouble the other's netminder.

The Huskies were outshot in all three periods, for a total of 36-14 in the game. Huskies goaltender Matt Welsh (Halifax, NS) made 32 saves, while REDS goaltender Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK), the league leader in goals against average and save percentage, made 13 saves.

Dove-McFalls was named Subway Player of the Game.

Despite the Huskies loss, they remain in third place in the standings. Saint Mary's, Dalhousie and UPEI all finish the weekend with 15 points, but the Huskies hold the tie-breaker.

The Huskies are in action again on Wednesday, when they host the St FX X-Men.

The REDS return home for a Friday contest against Moncton. Game time is 7:00pm.
