(FREDERICTON, NB) After four standout seasons with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League, forward Brady Gilmour is joining the UNB Reds men’s hockey team.

He’s signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and has joined the Reds ahead of the 2019-20 Atlantic University Sport season.

Gilmour played a total of 231 regular season games for the Spirit, scoring 57 goals and 77 assists.

In 2016-17, Gilmour posted career highs with 26 goals and 21 assists, prompting the Detroit Red Wings to select him in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Draft, 193rdoverall.

“I’m lucky that this opportunity came and I’m so excited about it,” said Gilmour. “The men’s hockey program here is incredible and I look forward to continuing my hockey career and going to school.”

Two of his four seasons in Saginaw were spent with current Reds forward Kris Bennett.

Prior to joining the Spirit, Gilmour was a member of the Quinte Red Devils, where he was a member of four Ontario Minor Hockey Association championship teams.

He was part of Team Canada, at both the U16 and U17 levels, for the World Hockey Challenge, and helped Team Ontario to the gold medal at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.

“We’re excited to get a player of Brady’s pedigree at this time of year,” said Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “He had a great OHL career in an excellent organization, and was one of their team leaders with an outstanding work ethic and top team attitude. We’re looking for him to make a great transition to our program.”

“I think I’m a smart hockey player and having a high hockey IQ is my biggest strength,” said Gilmour. “As a teammate I will always give 100-percent and do anything for my team.”

Gilmour will pursue a degree in Business Administration while attending UNB.
“Obviously, I think everyone’s goal is to win a national championship, and after playing here, I hope there’s an opportunity to play pro hockey.”
