Reds End Regular Season With 8-2 Win

(MONCTON, NB) The UNB Reds exploded for four unanswered goals in the second period on route to an 8-2 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus, on Saturday.

With the win, the Reds finish the Atlantic University Sport regular season with a 26-and-4 record, and winners of 14 straight.

Subway Player of the Game, Kris Bennett (Brampton, ON), led the visitors offensive attack with two goals and two assists. Brady Gilmour (Grafton, ON) and Mark Simpson (Rothesay, NB) each scored twice, while Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) and Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) added singles.

The Aigles Bleus led the game 2-1 after one period, and outshot the Reds 12-7 in the opening frame.

The Reds then took control of the game, scoring four power-play and a short-handed marker in the second period.

Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK) made 19 saves for the win, while Moncton's Alexi Thibaudeau (Riverview, NB) made 25 saves in the losing cause.

Moncton now faces St FX in a best of three first round AUS playoff series.

UNB has a first round playoff bye and awaits their second round opponent.
