Guard Otshudi Joins REDS

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s basketball team has completed their 2022 recruiting run, adding one last piece ahead of the 2022-2023 Atlantic University Sport season, heralded point guard Eden Otshudi.

The 6’3” Hamilton, Ontario native has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS for their upcoming training camp.

“Eden is an extremely talented point guard who has already played at some very high levels, including his time at the Potters House Academy and the RISE Academy,” said REDS head coach Joe Salerno. “He’ll bring scoring to our backcourt and the ability to make others around him better. He was a player that we saw early in the spring and he really caught our attention. After a lengthy recruitment, we couldn’t be happier to have Eden joining our REDS family.”

The 20-year-old has competed with teams at the Jacksonville, Florida-based Potters House Christian Academy and Nashville-based Tennessee Prep, as well as Ontario’s TRC Academy.

Otshudi attracted interest from other U SPORTS schools but felt UNB was the best fit for him.

“The connection I had with the coaches definitely played a part in my decision,” he said. “They’ve been transparent with me throughout the process and the team culture they’re developing was a draw. I’m excited.”

Otshudi says, along with his talent, he’ll bring solid leadership and energy to the REDS.

“My short-term goal is to get 1% better every day, in the classroom and on the court. Long-term, I want to get my degree and help UNB win championships.”

“Our staff is confident Eden will make an impact with our program,” said Coach Salerno. “We expect to see that impact immediately.”

Otshudi will study Sociology while attending UNB.
