(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s basketball team is naming 6’7” small forward Justin Chase to their recruiting class of 2023.

The 19-year-old, from Toronto, is finishing his Grade 12 year at Orangeville Prep, where he’s a three-year member of the school’s regional and national touring teams.

“Justin is an elite athlete,” said REDS’ head coach Joe Salerno. “His explosiveness, quickness, and ability to play above the rim allow him to do things other guys just can’t do. He has great size and a skill set that allows him to score a variety of ways.”

“I bring great size and athleticism,” said Chase. “I’m ready to help the team win.”

Along with being a standout at Orangeville Prep, Chase has worked with the high-level club program Uplay Canada, playing in the prestigious EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League).

A nominee for the Biosteel Canadian prospects all-star game, Chase has earned MVP or all-star honours at such events as the National Prep School Invitational, Rumble in the Jungle tournament, Gotham City Showcase and Hardwood Classicx.

Chase was also recognized for his play in the “Grind Session,” an elite North American prep school circuit.

“Coming from Orangeville’s national prep team, he’s played at high levels and against some of the best prep school competition in North America,” said Coach Salerno. “Justin’s potential is through the roof, and we’re so excited to have him join our REDS family.”

Chase has goals he wants to see materialize as quickly as possible.

“I want to get comfortable in creating my home at UNB, and winning the championship,” he said.

Chase will study Arts while attending UNB.
