(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds flexed their offensive muscle in their exhibition season debut Saturday, scoring a 105-65 win over the visiting Acadia Axemen.

Third-year forward Ibrahima Doumbouya (Calgary, AB) led the Reds with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing a dozen rebounds in a game-high 26 minutes.

Chris Spurell (Quispamsis, NB) led all scorers with 20 points in a sparkling 7-for-10 field goal shooting effort.

First-year Reds Marcus Masters (Kitchener, ON) and Matur Maluach (Sydney, Australia) logged impressive debuts, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.

Rowan Power (Dartmouth, NS) led the Axemen with 11 points.

The Reds raced out to a 32-14 first quarter lead, scoring almost at will, including a 15-0 run.

Back to back steals by Daniel Pitcher (Sydney, Australia) and Tyrell Leotaud (Ajax, ON) in a 24 second span of the second quarter helped the Reds pad their lead.

UNB was up 51-32 at the half.

Leotaud hit a pair of three-point shots in the third quarter, as UNB expanded the lead.

The Reds were relentless in the second half, outscoring the Axemen by 15 in the final quarter, including a 10-0 run where Masters, the younger brother of former Reds great Javon Masters, scored five of his 12 points.

The Reds next pre-season action is Thursday, October 17th, when UNB visits Saint Mary's.

They open the 2019-20 Atlantic University Sport regular season on the road, at Memorial, on November 2nd.

UNB's home opener is Friday, November 8th, when the Reds welcome the Axemen back to the Richard J. Currie Center. Game time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
