(FREDERICTON, NB) Jesse Kendall (Guelph, ON) had 15 points and 5 rebounds as the UNB Reds defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 72-59, in their home-opener on Friday.

"We had a lot of defensive lapses last week and our defence was just not on point, so it was our focus this week," said Kendall. "We knew that if we took care of things in the defensive end our offence will come, and it worked out tonight."

Kendall was named Subway Player of the Game.

This was the first of back-to-back weekend games between the teams, and both now sport 2-1 records.

Ibrahima Doumbouya (Calgary, AB) also had a strong game for the Reds with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Alex Carson (Lower Sackville, NS) led the Tigers with 12 points and a pair of rebounds.

The Reds started fast with a 15-4 run to open the game and continued that pace going 3-3 from the three-point line to lead 19-12 after the first quarter.

UNB would put up a similar effort in the second to make it 35-27 at halftime.

Kendall drove the Reds success from long range going 3-5 from beyond the ark in the opening half.

Despite having their lead cut to as few as three points during the third quarter, the Reds offense continued to overwhelm the Tigers for a 54-39 lead heading into the fourth, where UNB would pull away for good.

The teams conclude their weekend series on Saturday, at UNB's Currie Centre. Game time is 4:00pm.
