Reds Advance To Garland Final

(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending Atlantic University Sport champion UNB Reds got balanced scoring as they beat the Mount Allison University Mounties 83-43 in their opening game at UNB's Eric Garland Memorial Tournament.

Tyrell Leotaud (Toronto, ON), Jesse Kendall (Guelph, ON) and Daniel Pitcher (Sydney, Aus.) all scored 11 points to lead the Reds.

Will Legere (Amherst, NS) pulled down 11 rebounds for UNB.

The Reds got 45 points off their bench.

Fourth-year forward Mack Chisholm (Fall River, NS) scored a game-high 18 points for the Mounties.

The UNB defence held the Mounties to just seven points in the second quarter and eight in the fourth.

Earlier on Friday, in the first game of the 2018 Garland Tournament, the Holland College Hurricanes defeated the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals 105-87.

Jace Colley (East Preston, NS) scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Hurricanes, while Roosevelt Whyley (Nassau, BAH) added 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Chance Cole (Los Angeles, CA) scored 27 points to lead the Bengals, who had just two subs on their bench.

The host Reds now face Holland College in Saturday's Garland Tournament title game, at 8:00pm.

The Mounties will take on the Bengals in the third place game. That tips of at 4:00pm.
