V-Reds lose tight game to Tigers 70-65

In tonight's basketball action at the Richard J. Currie Center theVarsity Reds dropped a tight game 70-65 to the Dalhousie Tigers.

The opening quarter got underway with Dalhousie taking the early lead with help from some solid under-the-net play by Devon Steadman building an initial 9-2 lead. UNB's Will McFee answered back for the Varsity Reds with a shot from long distance clawing back to 14-9. UNB got into some foul trouble sending Tigers to the foul line and ending the quarter trailing by seven – 22-15.

The Varsity Reds started the second quarter strong with McFee driving to the net and sending a no-look pass right into the hands of Dylan Baker draining two points. The Tigers continued to press, forcing UNB to take some unwanted fouls; at the end of the half the V-Reds still trailed by seven - 27-36.

The second half cracked off with a long distance marker from UNB's McFee keeping the pace, trailing 33-42. The play heated as Matt Daley stole the ball from a Dal player and dished it off to Jordan Irving, making the jump-shot and closing in 51-53. Alec Parise also made his presence known coming up with 10 points on the night and pulling down five defensive rebounds.

 

Masters tied the game up for UNB at 53-53 with a lay-up off the fast break which energed the entire building. Irving made an in-tight basket under the net to give the V-Reds their first lead of the game, 58-56. Simon Marr added a long three for the Tigers, maintaining the intense play to trail the V-Reds 60-59. After exchanging free throws during the final minutes the Tigers took the victory 70-65.
