V-Reds go 1-1 against Acadia - stay atop standings

The UNB Varsity Reds men's basketball split a pair of games on the road against the Acadia Axemen with scores of 84-92 and 96-86 to bring their record to 5-1 and keep them at the top of the AUS standings.

It was UNB's first year Javon Masters who led the charge on offense in Saturday's win with 42 points; just two points short of his CIS athlete of the week winning 44 points last week against UPEI.

The Varsity Reds led at the end of the first quarter by three,23-20, and increased their lead over the Axemen at the half to 48-38.  In the following two quarters both teams scored 26 points and 22 points each with UNB staying ahead on the board by 10 until the final whistle.

Third year player Matthew Daley dropped 23 in the net while Daley and Masters pulled down five rebounds each.

The Varsity Reds return to home court next weekend for their final game of the term as they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies at 8:00 pm on Saturday night, November 30th. The women's team will tip off first at 6:00 pm.
