RICHARD J. CURRIE CENTER

The Richard J. Currie Center is home to both the Reds basketball and volleyball programs.

The teams play home games and train in the Currie Center’s spacious and modern Performance Gym. The Performance Gym features a regulation size (FIVB) 18m X 9m volleyball court, a regulation size (FIBA) 28m X 15m basketball court, and stadium seating for 1400+ spectators.

With seating removed, the Performance Gym can feature side-by-side volleyball and basketball courts and as many as six collapsible basketball nets.

All four Reds teams enjoy the use of dedicated team dressing rooms. The head coaches of the Reds women’s and men’s basketball teams and the women’s and men’s volleyball teams have offices inside the Currie Center too.

There are dressing rooms for visiting teams and officials.

“We are very fortunate to get to call the Currie Center home. It’s one of the best facilities in the country and there is no doubt that it raises the profile of our court sport programs. I cannot think of a better place to practice and play every day.”

Jeff Speedy, Reds women’s basketball head coach and Assistant Athletic Director

The Currie Center played host to the 2016 Canadian women’s university basketball championship and the 2018 Canadian women’s under 15 and under 17 basketball championships. In 2019, it will host the Canadian men’s under 15 and under 17 basketball championships.

Opened in 2011, the Currie Center is also New Brunswick’s finest fitness and events facility. The five-story, 139,000 square foot facility has two other full-sized gyms, an indoor track, and state of the art Human Performance Lab. It also features meeting and classroom space. When not being used for Reds basketball or volleyball, the Currie Center hosts UNB’s graduation ceremonies, and public and private events such as conferences, concerts, receptions, science fairs, and job fairs.

There are 180 parking spaces, and the building is air conditioned and fully accessible from three levels.
