(CORNWALL, PE) The UNB REDS had a busy weekend, but managed to score wins against the Mount Allison Mounties and UPEI Panthers.

UNB opened the weekend by defeating the Mounties 12-6 at the BMO Centre on Friday night.

REDS midfielder Braeden Galbraith led the way, netting two goals in the victory.

“I think we did really well in our transition, getting good looks and capitalizing on our chances,” said Galbrieth. “We set out with the goal of taking our time to analyze the field better and trust our systems and I felt that helped us come out one top.”

On Saturday, the REDS travelled to Mount Allison for a re-match.

UNB prevailed again, beating the Mounties 10-1.

Attackman Austin Hirschfeld had a hat-trick to lead the REDS while goalie Zach Cogswell, who has been putting together quite the 2022 campaign, was seconds away from securing a rare shutout until a late man-up goal spoiled his bid.

In their final game of the weekend, UNB would travel to Cornwall, PE to challenge the UPEI Panthers, their toughest test of the weekend.

The teams battled back and forth, until the final minutes. That’s when attackmen Chris Burgess took over, scoring the final two goals of the game to secure the win for UNB.

“Fatigue definitely played a role in our performance on Sunday,” said Burgess. “After battling through some mental adversity, our off-ball play was able to get the job done. Admittedly it’s what we needed to get everybody rowing in the same direction.”

The REDS now sit tied in second place in the Maritime University Field Lacrosse League standings after taking home six points from this weekend. That sets the stage for a clash with top-ranked Dalhousie, this Saturday, October 22nd at the BMO Centre. Game time is 2:00pm.
