The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week is Samuel Dove-McFalls, from the men’s hockey team.
The second-year forward was a big contributor as the Reds scored a pair of decisive wins on home ice this past weekend.
In Friday’s 10-0 win over Dalhousie, Dove-McFalls scored a pair of goals and was an impressive 16-for-24 in the face-off circle, earning player of the game honours. His first goal, UNB’s first of the game, triggered the tossing of 1443 stuffed animals to the ice, as Friday was the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
In Saturday’s 8-1 victory over St FX, Dove-McFalls recorded two assists.
“Sam has been one of our most improved players and has played a key role in the success of our team so far,” said Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “His face-off percentage is 65-percent and he’s helped lead our penalty kill to a conference best. His four-point weekend helped our team to two important victories.”
Dove-McFalls and his Reds teammates go on the road this weekend, visiting Acadia and Saint Mary’s to conclude the first half of the season.
