The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week is Leah Smal, from the women’s swimming team.
Smal recorded four individual top three finishes at the Jack Scholz Memorial Swim Meet, at Acadia University, on the weekend. She also helped Reds relay teams to three more top three finishes.
Smal won the women’s 50 metre freestyle event, finished second in the 200 metre individual medley, and third in the 400 metre freestyle and 100 metre butterfly.
She was part of UNB foursomes that took second place in the 400 metre freestyle relay, and third in 200 metre medley relay and 200 metre freestyle relay.
“Leah had great performances this past weekend,” said Reds head coach Marta Belsh. “This meet was a good opportunity for her to try new events and strokes, and she anchored relays that earned podium finishes. Leah was our top individual point scorer.”
Smal and her Reds teammates now prepare for the third event on the Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule, November 15-17, at Dalhousie.
