The UNB Reds/Valley Graphics female Athlete of the Month, for November, is Leah Smal, from the women’s swimming team.
Smal scored four wins at two November meets, and beat qualifying standards in four events for the 2019 U SPORTS Swimming Championships.
Smal won the women’s 50-metre backstroke at the Mount Allison Invitational, before winning the same event at Dalhousie’s Kemp-Fry meet, where she also won the women’s 50-metre freestyle and the 100-metre backstroke and finished third in the women’s 200-metre backstroke.
“Leah had some great performances in November. Four U SPORTS qualifying times in four individual events is pretty impressive,” said Reds head coach Robin Ferdinand. “She’d taken a year away from racing, so it’s a great start. Her leadership in and out of the pool, and positive energy are just what UNB Swimming needed.”
